Exclusive: National Live Music Awards NT Nominations Announced
Foldback Magazine, in partnership with the National Live Music Awards (NLMAs), are pleased to exclusively announce the inaugural 2016 National Live Music Awards (Northern Territory) nominations ahead of the formal National announcement later today out of Sydney.
The National Live Music Awards (NLMAs) are a broad recognition of Australia’s diverse and successful live industry, celebrating the diversity and success of the Australian live scene – recognising the best vocal talents and musicians alongside the best venues, events and festivals.
The awards contain both national and state focused categories, voted on by the live industry (including fellow musicians, media, venues, bookers), with select public voted categories. The national awards will be revealed at a gala event in Sydney, while the State and Territory awards will be revealed at satellite events in their respective capital cities – all on 29th November 2016.

The nominated NT artists have been overwhelmed that their hard work and stagecraft is being recognised by their peers and the industry generally. Dylan Podsiadly of At the Dakota told Foldback: “We’re stoked and we feel very honoured to be nominated. Our live show is something we’re trying to improve on and we’re pumped to get recognition for it at this early stage of our career. It’s humbling to know we’re on the right track. Good luck to everyone that’s been nominated.”
Colin Lillie, the Scottish-born Australian singer-songwriter based in Alice Springs, told Foldback from his home town near Edinburgh where is holidaying with his family: “I am over the moon to be nominated for live voice of the year for the NT!
It has had always been my favourite part about being a performer to perform live. Singing live is the living art. No two performances are ever the same and this is what makes singing live so magical. Thank you very much for the nomination, I am very humbled.” Fellow Centralians Apakatjah were equally thrilled to be nominated: “Thanks for the nomination! We’re stoked to be nominated because we love playing our music to live crowds. We try to squeeze the life out of our guitars, boomerangs and vocals just to pour passion, culture, strength, pride and humorous fun into our live shows and it’s the bomb when peeps appreciate it!” singer Jonathan Lindsay-Tjapaltjarri Hermawan told Foldback.
Darwin heavy outfit Tapestry, fresh from winning NT Song of the Year 2016 (heavy) and showcasing at BigSound in Brisbane, are hoping to add to their awards cabinet with this nomination. Said front man Tom Devine-Harrison: “We’re all really stoked that we’re getting nominated for best live act. We all put a lot of time and effort into how our live sets run and it’s so great to hear it’s appreciated.”
