Joy Greer Performs At Happy Yess

Joy Greer’s sound is like the ideal Sunday morning, gentle yet refreshing.

Sitting on stage with nothing but her guitar and a microphone, you get the feeling the singer-songwriter’s performance is going to be raw.

Joy suits the intimate setting of Happy Yess. It is the perfect atmosphere to hear her stories through her lyrics.

Greer admits she avoids eye contact while performing because she’s quite shy.  We, the audience, read it as though she has forgotten we’re even there. It’s nice because we feel like we’re receiving an honest performance.

Her confidence shines through in her talent….and the signature shirt she wears on stage.

When she first asked her mum for a guitar, at about seven years old, her mum said she could get one if she promised to learn how to play.

She took that advice literally and taught herself.

When told she sounds like Missy Higgins, Greer smiles and replies that she loves Missy. Obviously, the compliment was well received.

Hearing her on stage you feel lost in her lyrics. She is a young woman in person, but I get the feeling that her soul is from another time. From a time when we were free to get lost in a forest quietly wandering through the trees distracted by our own thoughts.

She has a natural ability to capture even the most nonchalant ears and make them listen.

I’m looking forward to hearing the next installment, as her Happy Yess performance was pure Joy.
