On July 8 MusicNT is taking over the Darwin Railway and showing off some of the brightest talent in the NT music scene! They had over 25 acts apply to perform and have chosen 8 bands from Alice Springs, Katherine, Darwin, Santa Teresa and Arnhem Land and a mix of pop, rock, reggae, hip hop, metal and funk sounds… Come join the party with this amazing lineup.
It was 20 years ago that a group of passionate advocates for local music got together and founded MIDI (Music Industry Development Incorporated). Initially formed to rally for a venue to replace The Old Workers Club in Darwin it soon broadened to become a support base for musicians from across the Territory.
In 1991 MIDI formally became known as MusicNT and they’ve done a lot since then. MusicNT is now recognised as one of the leading peak music bodies nationally and has continued to grow through the creation of initiatives that bring NT music to the fore and develop positive platforms for the showcasing of Territory talent.
In its 20th year, MusicNT (along with many of their peer arts organisations) face some of their toughest battles… but they are committed to continuing to be a positive and responsive body bringing NT music to the world. And seeing as it’s their Birthday… they’re celebrating!
