Some of Darwin’s best original live music acts banded together last Saturday for the first ever PEDROFEST at the Chippo.  The event was in honour of much-loved and much-missed local sound guy and metal guitarist Pedro T. Swift, who’s tragic passing mid-last year left a big hole in the collective hearts of the local live music scene.

Pedro was a commanding figure behind the sound desk as well as on stage with his band The Crucible, where even seven strings were not nearly enough for his particular style of rampaging metal guitar licks.  There are few original musicians in Darwin who have not had their sound mixed by this consummate professional and the love in the room for his memory was palpable.

A diverse cross-section of genres was on offer at this extended event, drawing in solo acoustic acts, a stripped down acoustic set from the heavier side of things, soulful rock, reggae, blues-punk, pop-punk, psychapunk and metal-punk – all of whom have had the pleasure of having their signals tweaked by the man himself at some stage of their careers.  The event drew a great crowd and all door proceeds went to Pedro’s family.

Big thanks to The Chippo Live, Pedro’s spiritual music home, and the organisers for putting on an epic memorial event that hopefully will become an annual one.
