Darwin witnessed an extraordinary event when Queens of the Stone Age rocked into town and brought some high octane energy with them.

The Darwin Convention Centre played host to 3,000 punters who came to watch one of the biggest rock bands in the world. Queens of the Stone Age played an 18 song set full of classics like ‘No One Knows‘ and ‘Make it Wit Chu‘, with ‘I Sat by the Ocean‘ and ‘A Song for the Dead‘ as their encore. The stage presence of this band is like no other, each member brings their own flair but they come together in a full package of smooth and styled energy which translates to the audience in such an engaging way. It’s safe to say this was a rare opportunity for a Darwin audience to experience a huge internationally successful band.

Indigenous band Lonely Boys got the opportunity to be support act on the night. With the release of their album The Hunter this year, the band has been capturing the attention of national and international audiences. It’s not everyday you see a bush band from a remote indigenous community (Ngukurr) supporting a huge rock act from the US, but they brought some serious thunder to the stage and got the crowd movin’ and shakin’.

The success of this event proved one thing – that Darwin has the capacity to successfully play host to large concerts. There has always been an element of drought when it comes to artists adding the Northern Territory as a destination on their tour schedule due to our remote location, but times are changing and Darwin is getting the chance to experience more live music. The word is out there that we want more!
