What a great night at Live @ The Studio last Saturday night with those local rollicking rebels Jigsaw Collective kicking off the Darwin Entertainment Centre’s Wet Sessions FREE shows over the next two weeks.

The concept of the Wet Sessions is free Wet Season entertainment using the fantastic The Studio space, all fitted out for a tropical Wet Season mood to bring local Darwin artists in contact with the wider public for a couple of hours prior to the main shows in The Playhouse. A great atmosphere with good food, great beer and of course awesome local live music performances from some of Darwin’s most popular local acts to get up and boogie to. It doesn’t matter if you are there to see one of the main shows in The Playhouse later in the evening, or if you just want to catch a local act, catch up with friends and have a drink from the bar, these events are free to anyone who wants to come along. Keeping with the local theme, Darwin’s One Mile Brewery beer is on tap and there is also a new bar area downstairs in the main foyer, and a food service area outside the main DEC entrance.

The local act shows are on between 6.00pm and 8.00pm on show nights. The next main event is The Beatles Abbey Road Live tribute next Friday 28 February – in celebration of its 50th anniversary, some of Australia’s most respected musicians and members of iconic groups, collectively known as ARC – Kram (Spiderbait), Mark Wilson (Jet), Davey Lane (You Am I) and Darren Middleton (Powderfinger) – bring The Beatles’ most audacious creation to life on stage, performing Abbey Road in full, from start to finish.

Local blues, folk, rock and roots legend and multi-instrumentalist Adam Scriven will be performing free at Live @ The Studio pre The Beatles Abbey Road Live gig, so come on down this Friday for a 5.00pm start for his amazing sets. Adam is truly a talented and multi-layered performer not to be missed in this wonderful venue – you can chill on a bean bag or get up and dance – it is all up to you how you experience the Wet Sessions!

Upcoming shows over the next weeks are as follows:

The Beatles’ Abbey Road Live Friday, 28 February
with Adam Scriven Live @ The Studio

Amanda Palmer Saturday, 29 February
with Emma Rowe Live @ The Studio

10cc Wednesday, 4 March
with Kathryn Ezzy Live @ The Studio

Courtney Act Sunday, 8 March
with DJ Tristan Live @ The Studio.

If you still need to be convinced that the Wet Sessions are the best thing in local live music to happen to Darwin in a long time, check out our snaps of Jigsaw Collective’s gig last Saturday below – and remember, anyone can come along and it is absolutely free!
