Vale Reggae Dave

By Steve Habibi Kelk

Foldback Magazine reports with sadness the passing of a much loved and respected local music artist, Reggae Dave, after a battle with cancer.

We were fortunate to spend some time with Uncle late last week at the Palliative Care Unit at Royal Darwin Hospital. He told us of some recordings he was having mastered into albums, for which he had dearly hoped to have been around when they were released. He told us that these were his ‘thank-you’ to his fans and his fellow Darwin musicians for their love and support during his darker times, and also of course for his dear family members.

We at Foldback Magazine look forward to reviewing these treasures when they are released.

Our deepest condolences to Uncle’s family and many friends and to the many local artists, young and old, who have looked up to the great man and shared a stage with him; to the artists who learned from his relaxed, unhurried and confident ways how to play their music and entertain their audience; and to his many, many loyal fans.

“And forever, Uncle, ave atque vale (hail and farewell).”

See Reggae Dave’s performance at the Darwin Entertainment Centre in early October this year.
