Booty And The Beats

Happy Yess, July 18 2015

By: Steve Habibi Kelk

A swirling mixture of dance genres met punters at the Happy Yess with DJs James Mangohig, Ras J and Ben Andrews working the decks for the Booty and the Beats Dance Party.

And what a party it was. As the name suggests, this night was a celebration of getting down and funky with booty-licious tracks that made folk want to shake theirs all night long. The Yess turned out a great crowd for this hopefully regular event at Darwin’s premier alternative venue, which is just as comfortable putting on electronic gigs such as this, as it is with metal festivals. Our camera was there to capture the happy smiling people enslaved to the rhythm on the dance floor.

Also on the dance floor was the incomparable Claudia leading by example with some sultry swaying to the mixture of Afrobeat, Hip Hop, House, Dancehall and Latin grooves. Claudia had earlier in the day conducted a dance workshop at Tracks Dance Studio at Frogs Hollow Centre for the Arts so she was well and truly primed for the evening.
