The National Indigenous Music Awards had been scheduled for 7 August 2021 at Darwin Amphitheatre. The organisers postponed the in-person event amid COVID-19 restrictions affecting travel and gatherings across Australia.
The awards later took a different form. NIMAs partnered with triple j and its First Nations program Blak Out for a two-hour special on 14 November 2021, with exclusive performances and recognition of First Nations music.
