IMAGINE SEASIDE CARNIVAL 2022 – TICKETS ON SALE NOW

After a spectacularly successful inaugural run in 2021, the Imagine Seaside Carnival (ISC) is back at De la Plage, Casuarina bigger and better over 17-18 September 2022.

With a host of interstate and local acts headlined by the NT’s Emily Wurramara, ISC 2022 promises to cement itself as the pre-eminent end-of-Dry Season family-friendly music and cultural event for the Top End. Other acts include:

SORONG SAMARAI: world-renowned world music from Papua New Guinea and West Papua, Sorong Samarai is like nothing you have ever heard or seen before. Heavy beats from Producer Airileke & Sifixion (Digital Afrika) combine with fierce log drumming of the Manus Islands to create a fresh mashup of beats that is truely unique to this part of the globe.

CHOCOLATE STRINGS: Chocolate Strings are a Meanjin based Reggae – Dub – Funk & Soul collective born in the boroughs of West End. The crew have undergone a number of incarnations and now sit as a 5 piece in their 16th year of existence. Festival favourites, this band knows how to get you moving and have performed extensively down the coastlines of Australia and Aotearoa. Super tight grooves, beefy bass lines and melodic and harmonic lead lines.

JURAN: Juran is a gorgeously riveting, sultry soul-singer celebrating her 4th year of creating a cocktail of Reggae-Soul, Rhythm and Blues deliciousness.
This Aotearoa born artist writes poetically, with heart-felt words depicting provocative sentiments of love and passion, as well taking the listener to the deep dark places emerging from her own pain and recurring nightmares.

Juran

KAIVILI: Kaivili is a Darwin based soul and reggae artist. Kaivili hails from the Islands of Fiji – “My dad is from the village of Rewa, and my mum is from village in Lau called Sawana. I started singing in church which my mother took me to. She also was involved in cultural aspects in Fiji . I was always surrounded by singers , dancers and musicians”. With an incredible voice and effortless guitar, find some soul soothing on the dance floor.

ROBBIE MILLS & THE COLLECTIVE: Darwin Music Royalty – Larrakia, Kungarakan, Mayali, Yangman, Jawoyn, Gurrinji Singer, songwriter and musician Robbie Mills and his band The Collective play a unique and infectious fusion of reggae, funk and soul.

KATANGA JUNIOR: Katanga Junior is from Tanzania, East Africa. Growing up with musicians in his family meant music naturally became part of his life – influences ranged from African rumba to reggae and later hip hop. From age 16 he began playing drums in reggae and rumba bands in Tanzania, then moved onto guitar and rapping in a ‘ragga’ Swahili style that you may have seen at one of his many local performances.

YELLOW NATION: Yellow Nation are an emerging east Arnhem Land based, gospel, soul, reggae band. Frontman Romeo Gaykamangu represents his rich and diverse cultural lineage through the song lines and stories of his people. Yellow Nation are quickly making a name for themselves around the NT and beyond. Singing in their traditional languages of Gapapuyngu and Djambarrpuyngu, mixed with English, they are a soul touching experience to witness live on stage as they traverse through the emotions of their ancestral connection to land and spirit.

ELF TRANZPORTER: As founding member of one of Australia’s seminal hip hop acts, MetaBass’n’Breath, along with radical hip hop and dub, activist crew, Combat Wombat, Elf Tranzporter has become renowned for his inter-dimensional lyricism, freestyle-audience-interactive sabbaticals, as well as his own unique arsenal of beatbox sonics and vocal scratch phonetics seamlessly woven through. Well able to get the people up off their seat and on the dance floor in an instant, Elf continues to share his passion for music with audiences across Australia and abroad.

DJ CHARLY TEMPLAR: International DJ Charly Templar’s vision is driven by his belief in the power of music to alter people’s lives. His skills have been finely honed through the multi-faceted experiences he has accumulated through his extensive work as international DJ & Mentor.  This inner passion has taken him everywhere. Despite the fact that he is always busy and in high demand around the globe, Charly Templar always finds time to combine his musical passion with mentoring under-privileged youth across the globe. After a period of extensive International touring, Charly is now based back in the NT.

Imagine Seaside Carnival in partnership with Dream Impact Inspire is proud to announce a series of DJ workshops for young people with DJ Charly Templar, culminating in a performance opportunity at Imagine Seaside Carnival on the 17th of September.

DJ RAGGARAE:

DJ RaggaRae will keep the vibes high between sets with her infectious selection of reggae music. Originally from Sydney and being drawn into the Dj scene at Sydney’s first and only underground ‘Dancehall’ cemented Renée’s (AKA Dj RaggaRae) relationship with reggae music. Travelling Jamaica, Renée began collecting the musical heartbeat of the island nation, and on moving to Darwin, firmly found her home joining the crew of Club Kongo – Darwin’s long standing and much loved regular world music night. Becoming heavily entrenched in the African community in Darwin, Renée has provided the heartbeat to many a party and cultural gathering. Renée loves taking her audience on a world music journey accenting well known old school hits.
