Inaugural TerrorLoud One Headlines With Alpha Wolf

Alpha Wolf

Heavy music fans are in for something special this Saturday May 7th at the Landmark Yarrawonga when TerrorLoud brings on the inaugural TL-One festival. There has been a gaping hole in the Top End metal scene for way too long and we at Foldback are as excited as a kid in a lolly shop about this.

Covid has killed recent plans for artists across the genre spectrum and it takes a good deal of guts and faith in oneself to organise such an epic event with interstate acts and acts with international tours under their belt. Along with Alpha Wolf, Darwin punters can look forward to interstaters Diamond Construct and Lune, as well as a host of local heavy legends – We Burn Bridges, Fuxache, Temperamental, Akrasia, Kathryn & the Overbytes and The Burnouts.

TL-One organisers Tim Knowles and Wesley Beck have put themselves out there organising such a hectic event for Darwin, facing down multiple cancellations of the festival due to covid restrictions and juggling band availability. Persistence pays off however and that persistence, coupled with a love of seeing live bands, has got this event over the line for this weekend.

“Because we love the music scene, the idea is to give some opportunities to smaller bands, that they can play amongst bigger bands, see how things are done and progress their music.

Wesley Beck

Born from the 10-year long successful run of Terrorfest, Tim and Wes were keen to keep the momentum going in the heavy scene with something that not only attracts bigger acts to town, but also pays pack to the local scene. Says Wes: “Because we love the music scene, the idea is to give some opportunities to smaller bands, that they can play amongst bigger bands, see how things are done and progress their music. It would be good to have another band or two pop up that really start pushing it, start moving into those high headline spots themselves. Due to covid, a lot of bands have fallen by the wayside and hopefully (TL-One) is a bit of a revival.”

The altruism of the organisers is a good example of what has bound the Darwin music scene together over many years and kept it ticking. A supportive, cooperative and inclusive group of diverse artists, venues, techs and media orgs for whom the ultimate outcome is not necessarily a financial win is unique to this place, and of enormous community value. Tim and Wes are hopeful too that eventually Darwin bands won’t necessarily have to physically move ‘down south’ to make it, but can be just as successful based in D-Town. For that, we need more of this.

Now let’s get into the music.

Alpha Wolf. A band that has catapulted to the upper echelons of Australian heavy music and have made massive moves on the international stage.

The band’s most recent album ‘A Quiet Place to Die’ reached as high as number 6 in the ARIA charts and earned that band an ARIA Award nomination in the category ‘Best Hard Rock or Heavy Metal Album’.

The first single from ‘AQPTD’ is a track titled ‘Akudama, which has arguably one of the best music videos in recent heavy music history. ‘Akudama’ has given the band a giant wave of new fans and acknowledgement from heavy music royalty such as Korn’s – Brian ‘Head’ Welch who called them “My favourite heavy band in 2020”.

Alpha Wolf’s work ethic and uncompromising music have seen them extensively tour internationally with the likes of other huge artists such as August Burns RedCrystal Lake and Fit for a King. The band was recently on a USA and Canada tour playing sold out shows alongside other Australian heavyweights, Polaris

Also on the line-up is New South Wales band Diamond Construct. Currently on a national tour for their latest single ‘Hit it Back’ the band has caught high praise from Youtubers Jared Dines and Nic Nocturnal. If you like modern metal with serious groove and killer breakdowns, this is your new favourite band.

Melbourne’s LUNE rounds out the Interstate bands. A band that is fast on the rise to be one of Australia’s best. Currently on a national tour with Pridelands, these guys are part of the new wave of Aussie heavy bands taking over!
