Darwin’s One Mile Brewing Co. Celebrates 6th Birthday

Saturday August 1st marked a very special day. Not only is it the national birthday of horses, but Darwin’s very own microbrewery’s 6th birthday!

One Mile Brewing Co. was established on this day in 2012 and the boys decided to celebrate the milestone with a jam packed, 12-hour party for the whole family.

The celebration was held at the brewery’s site in Winnellie, with the iconic Tour Tub bus collecting and returning people to the city, Nightcliff and Palmerston throughout the day and night to ensure that no one missed out on tasting any of the delicious beers they brew on site.

With local live music kicking off at 11am, the mini-festival was packed from this point until it’s midnight finish. The local artist lineup included DJ Tom, soloists Bridey Rose, Brett Ireland, Crystal Robins and RachelRachel, with hard rockers Clockwork Riot and funksters The Neo Collective closing out the night, making sure that much dancing ensued. Everyone was clearly stoked for the chance to hear and dance to live original music, as obviously there hasn’t been many opportunities lately due to #CovidThings.  The very wonderful Gigtek worked a huge day to supply the sound for the event, alongside the beautiful Amy Hetherington doing what she does best in being the best of charismatic MCs, bringing everyone together and making people laugh (the other thing she does extremely well). Amy also ran a mean off-the-cuff (or should that be off-the-collar?) mullet competition, and we don’t mean she was raffling a seafood tray.

Food was in plentiful supply with stalls to keep everyone’s stomachs full. The event truly had something for everyone, with giveaways throughout the day, a jumping castle and the wonderful Burning Circus to entertain the kiddies. Hot 100 and Mix 104.9 provided live broadcasts throughout the afternoon.

The guys from OMB did an amazing job adhering to all the COVID-19 regulations and put on an epic day. If you missed out, you can always drop out to the brewery on a Thursday, Friday or Saturday night. You won’t be able to catch the music or get your face painted, but you can taste test their beautiful selection of well-crafted libations. I highly recommend the ginger beer.

Darwin’s We Are Creatives produced a cool recap vid for the night, which you can watch here, and you can check out some more snaps of the entertainment below:
