Darwin-based singer-songwriter Bridey Rose is set to launch her new single ‘Self Caged‘ from her upcoming debut album ‘My Heart’s Army‘ when she plays with full band on the Kolsen Bamboo Bandstand at Darwin Festival tonight. This is a free event.
“Without self-love and understanding to set you free, the cage becomes a reality“
Of the new single, Bridey says: “Have you ever been in a situation where you didn’t know where to turn next ? Self-caged , a prisoner to your own mind? Without self-love and understanding to set you free, the cage becomes a reality.”
‘Self Caged‘ is an honest self-account by Bridey set amongst a reserved acoustic melody and interspersed with a heavy kick and bass heartbeat that perfectly imparts on the listener a sense of emotional imprisonment. Bridey sings it in a matter-of-fact fashion, which makes her message all the more relatable. Bridey is a clever storyteller in this regard.
‘Self Caged‘ is the first single to be released off ‘My Heart’s Army‘. Bridey plans to reveal her debut album in full on all platforms through a journey of releases over the next 6 months. According to Bridey, ‘My Heart’s Army‘ is a tale of love lost and courage; emotions unravelled and unveiled; dark versus light. A battle to ‘woman-up’. The album was recorded with award winning producer Paul Pilsonic in the mountains of Byron Bay NSW in the winter of 2021.
Catch Bridey Rose with her band ‘The Good Fellows‘ at the Kolsen Bamboo Bandstand this evening at 6.30pm at Darwin Festival, Festival Park in the City. You can listen to ‘Self Caged’ on the Spotify link below:
