Ground-breaking pop-up space designed to showcase Northern Territory arts and culture launches at Darwin International Airport.

Officially opening to the public on Wednesday 8th August, The Green Room at Darwin Airport is a true celebration of the Top End’s dry season and relaxed tropical lifestyle.

“We wanted to bring the outside in; create a unique arts venue that was welcoming, engaging and entertaining – not only for our customers, but for our local community first and foremost”, said Project Manager Claire Punch.

The space does not disappoint. Inspired by the original Green Room bar which ran in Hotel Darwin during the 80s, Darwin Airport’s creation is a modern take on a retro fit. It boasts cane style furniture, banana leaf fabric, astroturf flooring, tropical wallpaper and lush green plants. There is a stage for live performance, and two large screens displaying digital content supplied by arts groups in the Northern Territory.

“Darwin Airport has supported community arts in the Top End for a long time now. This is our way of continuing that support in a meaningful way. We have built a space to promote the arts – and we plan on sharing that with the 2.5million passengers who come through our terminals each year,” said CEO of Northern Territory Airports, Ian Kew.

Amy Hetherington (Amiable Communications) has worked with the local musicians and arts organisations to design a program tailored for locals. The program will run throughout August and September, and there is a number of special ticketed events being held in the space.

While enjoying the live music or digital content, punters will have access to a festival inspired menu with share plates, cold drinks and a cocktail available at The Green Room bar. Parking passes for complimentary parking will be available by spending $10 or more at The Green Room bar. That means locals can enjoy the shows, without having to worry about rushing.
