Kathryn And The Overbytes – ‘Please Tell Me’

Emerging Darwin alt rock/pop band Kathryn and the Overbytes are releasing their debut single ‘Please Tell Me‘ on March 5 with a live launch at the Happy Yess.

KATOB have hit the local scene recently so are short on exposure but long on talent. Fronted by multi-instrumentalist and vocalist Kathryn Ezzy (vocals and bass), the band already made a splash at the Darwin Railway Club on New Years Eve, so we know to expect a tight and polished performance from this young 4-piece on the night of the launch.

The debut single ‘Please Tell Me‘ is about the grey, uncomfortable and often unspoken area of relationships that is somewhere between friends and lovers – those feelings perhaps forbidden, perhaps fraught with danger, perhaps unrequited. The main plea of the song, as the title suggests, is “Please tell me, what are we? Because this is making me go crazy.”

Punchy from the start, ‘Please Tell Me‘ doesn’t let up. The track invokes a racing heart, anxiety and confusion but is anything but anxious or confused in itself – it is slickly written and without too much in the way of bells and whistles, allowing Kathryn Ezzy’s vocals to shine through. Production is top notch as well and does the song a great service. ‘Please Tell Me‘ was produced and recorded by Kathryn and the band’s guitarist Tyson Lowe, mixed by Yarn Muths (Yarn the Mix Artist) and mastered by Kamal Engels (Art of Audio).

KATOB will be supported at the track launch by local acts Edith Falls and Danger Den – the Facebook event page can be found here:
